Artificial intelligence in diagnostics

Using AI in radiology made easy

AI opens up new potential for reporting in radiology. It relieves doctors and can improve diagnostics. Via the TMD Cloud, you can use artificial intelligence without a lengthy IT project and in a vendor-neutral manner.

Easy integration

Central DICOM interface to TMD Cloud for quick connection to your PACS or your RIS/HIS.

Different classifiers

Cloud connectivity gives you the choice of various AI tools to support diagnosis.

Fast implementation

A few weeks instead of many months: Use AI without a lengthy IT project at your institution.

Completely independent

Through the TMD Cloud, you are free in your choice of AI tools - today but also in the future.

What AI can do

Artificial intelligence as support for radiologists

Artificial intelligence (AI) is part of our everyday lives: in smartphones, cars or industrial applications. AI is also used in medicine, for example in health apps or skin cancer screening.

Especially in image recognition, artificial intelligence is already very good. For example, AI algorithms detect abnormalities such as pulmonary nodules or bone fractures in CT or X-ray images with a high degree of reliability.

Over 35 AI tools with one integration

Fast integration of different AI tools through cooperation with deepc

For easy use of different AI-based imaging and reporting tools, TMD Cloud provides a standardized cloud interface to the deepc AI platform.

This simplifies the technical integration of certified AI tools for you, ensures high data protection standards and only requires one data processing agreement (DPA), as Telepaxx is your central partner.

AI AS A TOOL IN RADIOLOGY

Already one third uses artificial intelligence for diagnostic reporting

AI algorithms are already being used in clinical workflows to help physicians with workflow management, image processing, detection or diagnosis, among other things.

According to a 2022 study by the European Society of Radiology (ESR), 37 percent of regional hospitals and as many as 11 percent of office-based physicians use AI in their medical practice. Above all, AI is valued as a tool for prioritization.

OBSTACLES TO KI REPORTING

Practical use of AI in radiology still challenging

The benefits of AI are obvious. However, practical use still fails more often, according to a study among German physicians. The main reasons are: the price-performance ratio, practicality and the lack of IT support.

These are precisely the hurdles you avoid with the TMD Cloud: A one-time integration with our central platform gives you access to a wide range of AI tools.

No replacement for radiologists

AI takes over assistant function in radiology

Artificial intelligence already does a lot today and can make the daily work of radiologists easier. However, it only performs assistance functions to relieve doctors and minimize the risk of potential misdiagnoses.

However, the expertise of experienced physicians is indispensable. Despite the use of an AI, the final diagnosis and treatment recommendation also ultimately lie with the responsible radiologist.

FAQ about AI Diagnosis

Artificial intelligence (AI) refers to software applications that mimic the capabilities of the human brain in the broadest sense. Today, artificial intelligence is used, for example, in speech recognition in smartphones or for intelligent assistance systems in cars. In medicine, AI is used, among other things, to recognize abnormalities in medical images and to support doctors in prioritizing and diagnosing.

AI algorithms are already very good at recognizing patterns in images in particular. They are used in radiology, for example, in the diagnosis of CT, MRI or X-ray images. Depending on the AI used, it detects fractures or lesions, for example. With the help of AI, radiologists can also optimize workflows or improve image processing.

The number of AI tools for radiology is now considerable. Over 200 AI-based software solutions for radiology with CE markings are available to choose from. Before deciding on an AI tool, there is the fundamental question of which tasks AI can best support you with and thus relieve you of. According to a study by the European Society of Radiology, the radiologists surveyed see the added value of AI primarily in the interpretation of medical image data, in the prioritization of workflows and in the area of post-processing of images.

In addition to a DICOM interface for images at your PACS or modality, you need a Windows computer (physical or virtualized) and Internet access.

Telepaxx Medical Data cooperates with the leading platform for AI applications in radiology, deepc. Through this cooperation, you can integrate multiple AI tools into your workflows via direct cloud-to-cloud communication with just one technical integration. In total, you can choose from over 25 curated AI algorithms specifically for radiology facilities via Telepaxx's interface.

Complementary, you can also connect individual tools via the TMD Cloud, such as mediaire's mdbrain, Image Biopsy Lab's MSK platform, mbits' mRay, and MeVis' Velolity LungCAD.

The use cases of artificial intelligence in radiology are diverse. Today, AI is primarily used for workflow management, image processing, segmentation and detection, and assessment and diagnosis in radiology.

We would be happy to give you insights into the various AI tools we offer for radiologists in a live demo. Unfortunately, a test integration of the software is not possible.

However, existing Telepaxx customers can easily connect the desired AI tool via the TMD Cloud in a short time and integrate it into their workflows. This integration can also be easily deactivated again after a test period of several weeks. This gives you the opportunity to test innovative AI tools at predictable costs and low IT effort.

A classifier is a computer algorithm that sorts information into a specific class. An example of this is a classifier for detecting bone fractures. In simple terms, it sorts the X-ray images presented to it into the classes "fracture" or "no fracture". Through integration into the worklist, images on which the AI has detected a fracture can be highlighted. This makes it easier for the doctor to prioritize patients.
